Mercedes decided to surprise their three-year-old fan suffering from cancer, as they took their Formula 1 car to Swansea as part of a supercars’ convoy. Morgan Ridler was diagnosed with cancer when he was two years old. The inspiration behind Morgan's Army Charitable Foundation set up by his parents, Morgan was set to attend the British GP at Silverstone, but the plan got called off as he had to be put on palliative care.
Learning this, the British team went an extra mile to meet their special fan and became a part of the supercar event organised by Morgan’s parents Natalie and Matthew on June 22, Thursday. The couple have been told that his treatment isn’t working, and the focus will move to palliative care. Big names like Porsche and Mercedes joined the convoy that ended at Swansea Airport where the three-year-old had a flight with his dad.
A Mercedes spokesperson told RacingNews365.com, “We were planning on inviting Morgan to come to Silverstone with us to meet the drivers and see the cars in the garage, but he sadly needed to stop his treatment, so his condition didn’t allow him to travel anymore. So, we decided to bring the car to him.” The spokesperson added, "We also showed him some messages from Lewis, George and Toto. It was lovely to meet Morgan, his whole family, his friends and the community."
Notably, the Swansea family has raised more than USD 25,000 via an online crowdfunding page. Speaking about the event they organised for their son, the couple said, "We know that Morgan loves his supercars, and we have some really super cars here today. All those are driven by really kind people who at heart wanted to make a little boy really happy. The cars were very noisy, exactly what Morgan asked for."
