In a major revelation, Leo, the first name of Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time, has become the most used for male newborn babies in Catalonia during the year 2022. The study has been conducted and published by the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya, as part of their in program “Que t'hi jugues” on Radio Barcelona.

Lionel Messi, the Argentine World Cup-winning captain, has been a major part of the folklore of Catalonia, the autonomous community of Spain, where he played the majority of his professional club football for FC Barcelona. Since leaving Barca in the year 2021, the 36-year-old has been a part of Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons in France, before going to the United States of America to play for Inter Miami.

As per the study, the name Leo, which was in fifth place among male newborn babies in 2021, moved to first place in 2022 with 433 registrations. Nil has consolidated its second place, while Marc has fallen to third place on the ladder. Pol and Jan made up the top five places as the most used names among boys last year.

Meanwhile, in the female newborn babies, the name Julia was most used in 2022, while Aitana's name was given to 103 girls, which was 43 more than Alexias during the same time span.
