With the ILT20 kickstarting on Friday, 19th January, MI-owned MI Emirates have announced their wildcard player. The MI Emirates have named Tim David as the wildcard player for the 2024 edition. The Aussie all-rounder who joined the Mumbai Indians in IPL in 2022, was also a part of the MI New York in the inaugural MLC season and played the SA20 2023 for MI Cape Town.

With David joining the MI Emirates, he will strength the MI lineup in the UAE’s T20 league alongside Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu and others. “From Mumbai to Cape Town to New York and now to Emirate.. there’ only one TIM DAVID,” the franchise captioned the post.
Speaking of the MI Emirates, the side will start their campaign with an away game in Dubai on 20th January 2024 against Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
What is the wildcard feature in the ILT20?
Moreover, the wildcard feature was introduced to the tournament ahead of the second edition. The ILT20 will allow franchises to sign two players as wildcards, spending a maximum of USD 250,000. As per the ILT20 rules, franchises were given an option to sign two more players under the purse of USD 2.5 million.
Moreover, in case a franchise has exhausted its purse, it could spend a maximum of 10 percent of the purse to secure the wildcard player(s).
