After two consecutive defeats, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians finally got their first win in IPL 2025 after they defeated defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets playing their first match of the season at Wankhede Stadium. Debutant Ashwani Kumar registered a four wicket haul as MI bowled KKR out for just 116 runs in 16.2 overs. In reply MI chased the winning target with Ryan Rickelton scoring his maiden IPL half-century with 62*(41) runs as MI chased the target in 12.5 overs.

Talking about the match, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. Bowling first, MI got a fiery start as Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar sent both the openers (Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine) back to pavilion inside two overs with just two runs on board. After that, KKR went on to lose wickets at regular intervals with Angkrish Raghuvanshi being top scorer with 26(16) runs. Ramandeep Singh also contributed with 22(12) runs but couldn't score bgi as KKR were bowled out in 16.2 overs. For MI, Ashwani Kumar registered figures of 4/24 in three overs. Apart from that, Deepak Chahar took two wickets, while skipper Hardik Pandya, Vignesh Puthur, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner scalped a wicket each.

Ryan Rickelton smashes maiden IPL 50 as MI register easy win

Chasing the winning target, Mumbai Indians were looking to get a big start as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton added 46 runs for the first wicket in 5.2 overs. However, Rohit got another failure as he got out after scoring 13 runs off 12 balls with one maximum. After that, Rickelton took charge of the innings and went on to smash first half-century in his IPL in 33 deliveries. 

Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks added 45 runs for the second wicket before Jacks lost his wicket after scoring just 16 off 17 balls hitting one sixes. Rickelton remained unbeaten on 62 runs off 41 balls while Suryakumar Yadav gave finishing touches with 27*(9) runs as MI chased the target in 12.5 overs losing two wickets.
