After losing their opening two matches, Alyssa Healy's UP Warriorz registered their first win of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 as they defeated the defending champions, Mumbai Indians. Kiran Navgire's spectacular half-century and Grace Harris' all-round performance helped UP beat Mumbai by seven wickets on Wednesday.
After winning the toss, the Warriorz invited the Indians to bat first and restricted them to 161 runs with Hayley Matthews scoring 55-off-47 for Harmanpreet Kaur-less Mumbai while all five UP bowlers picked a wicket each, and Sophie Ecclestone helped her side in running out skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt.
In the beginning, the Mumbai Indians looked like the dominant side with Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia combining for a 50-run opening partnership. Unfortunately, no other player could score more than 26 runs apart from the West Indies women's skipper. Despite that, MI managed to place a 162-run target for the UP Warriorz.
During the chase, Kiran Navgire (57-off-31) and skipper Alyssa Healy (33-off-29) combined for a 94-run partnership for the first wicket while Grace Harris' unbeaten 17-ball 38 runs helped the Warriorz to register a seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians with 21 balls remaining.
