Former England captain Michael Vaughan is known for his bold statements and his banter with Wasim Jaffer. The ex-English cricketer doesn't shy away from speaking aloud in public on any matter. Vaughan has been invariably critical of the Indian Premier League. When the final Test between India and England was called off, the former Three Lions captain was one of those people who blamed IPL for the same. However, he has also praised the tournament for the quality of cricket that is played here.
IPL is undoubtedly the biggest T20 tournament played across the globe. However, with so many countries starting their own T20 league, there have always been comparisons drawn. Pakistan Super League is one such tournament that finds itself in the bracket. Vaughan also took part in the comparison contest and called PSL the second-best T20 tournament in the world.
Vaughan also pointed out that PSL is not far off the IPL and praised the tournament for what it has to offer. The former England captain shared a tweet on Tuesday evening which read, "Pakistan Super league is the 2nd best T20 Tournament in the World ... it’s not far off the IPL either. Outstanding standard of cricket".
PSL started in 2016
Since Vaughan has already compared the two tournaments, it is better to look at some facts. Pakistan Super League was started in 2016 with five teams Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, and Lahore Qalandars. Two seasons later, Multan Sultans was included as the sixth team. On the other hand, the Indian Premier League's first season was played in 2008 with eight teams. The Indian T20 League will see its 15th edition getting bigger with the inclusion of two new teams.
Talking about the participation of players from other countries, the Indian T20 League has players from almost all cricketing nations. Associate nation players also take part in the IPL. Meanwhile, PSL is still expanding its reach in terms of foreign players participation.
