Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag took to his official X account to laud praises for his son Aaryavir, who scored a massive double hundred for Delhi against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy match in Shillong. Aaryavir Sehwag got 297 runs in just 309 balls, a marathon innings which included 51 boundaries and three maximums, to help Delhi reach 468 for two in 81 overs at stumps on day two in response to Meghalaya’s first innings total of 260 runs.
The incredible batting performance from Aaryavir Sehwag was quite reminiscent of his dad’s swashbuckling style at the international level, which allowed him to score big runs in Test cricket. But still, Aaryavir “missed a Ferrari by 23 runs” according to his dad Virender Sehwag, who had reportedly promised his son the luxury car if he could end up breaking his record of 319 runs in an innings, which came in a Test match against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.
Keep the fire alive and may you score many more daddy hundreds: Virender Sehwag to his son
It was in 2015, during an interview with commentator Harsha Bhogle, when Virender Sehwag spoke about promising his sons a Ferrari if they get past his highest total in international cricket. As per Times Now, he remarked, “Yes, my kids know I have made some humongous scores in Test cricket. So I have told them, if you cross that 319-run mark even in school cricket, I will present you a Ferrari.”
In one of his latest posts on the official X account, Virender Sehwag congratulated his son Aaryavir for his double hundred in the Cooch Behar Trophy for Delhi against Meghalaya. He wrote, “Well played @aaryavirsehwag . Missed a Ferrari by 23 runs. But well done, keep the fire alive and may you score many more daddy hundreds and doubles and triples. Khel jaao..”
