A Mississippi boy who was accused of urinating in public was ordered to write a two-page essay on late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. A 10-year-old boy named Quantavious E ason was taken into custody by Senatobia police in August for allegedly urinating in public. The incident happened when his mother was consulting an attorney about a legal matter at a law office near the Tate County courthouse.
After the incident, Eason’s mother was informed that her son was spotted relieving himself in a public place. The kid’s mother Latonya Eason said that when she asked about the reasoning, Quantavious said that he urinated behind his mother’s car when his sister told him that the office didn’t have a public restroom.
Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler later said in an official statement, “In this situation, an officer personally witnessed a 10-year-old child committing an act in public which would have been illegal for an adult under these circumstances. The officer did not observe a parent on the scene during the initial contact.”
Additional officers arrived at the spot and an official said that the 10-year-old was going to be arrested and placed in the back of a cop car for public urination. Later, he was released after his mother completed the paperwork. The child was ordered to serve three months probation and will be required to write an essay on the late NBA Hall of Fame inductee Kobe Bryant.
The child’s probation also involves his monthly check-in with a judge every month along with his mother. In addition to this, the kid’s family is likely to pursue litigation against the Senatobia Police Department. Notably, after the controversy that stirred up following the kid’s arrest, Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler announced on social media that the police officer involved was “no longer employed” after an internal investigation by the department.
