Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh tested positive for Covid-19 a day before the T20I series against the West Indies. However, the Aussie captain has been given clearance to lead the side in the series opener with proper precautions. After the 2-match Test series and a 3-match ODI series, both sides will lock horns in the final T20I leg of the tour, starting on February 9, Friday in Hobart.
A day before the commencement of the series, Marsh tested positive for the coronavirus. However, the 32-year-old has been given the green light to lead the side in the T20I series. Australia camp has been affected by COVID-19 with Cameron Green testing positive for COVID-19 during the Test series. However, he took the field in the 2nd Test but maintained distance from his teammates. Apart from him, Josh Inglis also tested positive during the ODI series.
Mitchell Marsh to lead Australia with coronavirus guidelines
Marsh, who was honoured with the Allan Border Medal, will lead the team using strict guidelines. Marsh will maintain distance with teammates during the match and use a separate dressing room. Apart from this, Marsh won’t indulge in celebrations according to the Cricket Australia protocols. Cricket Australia released a statement and announced that Marsh will play the game.
The statement read, “Australia T20 skipper Mitch Marsh has tested positive for Covid-19 but will still play in tomorrow’s first T20 against the Windies in Hobart, in line with CA protocols. Marsh will use a separate dressing room during the match and stay distanced while on the field.”
