Days after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq of their services in the Pakistan selection committee after T20 World Cup 2024 debacle, the board has announced changes to their selection committee. However, two of the former players and members of the previous committee, Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq have retained their places.

Furthermore, the new selection committee will be finally constituted prior to the Bangladesh Test series, which will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. The PCB has also decided to include Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood and four other members, however, they have been restricted from the voting rights. Moreover, the four members will act as advisors to PCB Chairman Bilal Afzal, Manager of Analytics and Team Strategy Hassan Cheema, Director of high-Performance Nadeem Khan and Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla.

Along with Yousuf and Shafiq, the new selection committee will also consist of captains and head coaches of the white as well as red-ball and also are empowered with the voting rights. Speaking in detail of these former cricketers, Mohammad Yousuf was previously the batting coach of the men’s team when they toured England and even for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking earlier this week, the PCB had issued a statement on the sacking of the two prominent members of the selection committee and former cricketers, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq. “The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup. Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men’s and women’s selection committee, while Wahab was a member of the men’s selection committee,” PCB’s statement read.

Moreover, with Abdul Razzaq departing from his duties in the PCB, Asad Shafiq has also been given the responsibility of overseeing women’s selection committee. He will be closely working with Batool Fatima, the women’s team captain Nida Dar and head coach Mohammad Waseem.
