Star pacer Mohammed Shami has been a vital cog in the Indian lineup, especially at marquee events. While the 33-year-old finished as the highest wicket-taker at the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, he has proved his mettle at times when the side needed to step up.

Similarly, after reports surfaced of Shami missing the first two Tests against England, the 33-year-old is racing against time to get fit. Speaking to India Today, the veteran pacer said, “I am trying best to be available for selection for England Test series. Test match is longer format so you don’t want to be in doubt.”

Shami, who is currently regaining fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) further made himself “available” for the T20 World Cup, if the selectors asks him. “Whenever it comes to T20s, many times I don’t understand that whether I am in scene or not. But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management will ask me to play, I’ll be available,” he said.

The Men in Blue will host the Three Lions in a five-match Test series, starting January 25th. While the first Test is set to be played from 25th to 29th January at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the second will be played in Visakhapatnam, followed by a game each in Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala.
