In a big update, it is being reported that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi is set to take over the reigns from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman. According to a report by PTI, there are high possibility of Naqvi taking over the seat due to the rotational system of the ACC.
It is to be noted that Jay Shah has held the role for three consecutive terms, with his recent one-year extension coming to an end in January 2025. According to the sources, as reported by PTI, a meeting held between the members at the ACC have opted to name Naqvi as the new President. This includes, he will be in charge for the next few editions of the Asia Cup, including the one in 2025, which will be held in India in the T20 format.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next President for a two-year term…. When (Jay) Shah steps down, the PCB Chief will take over,” a source told PTI.
The PCB Chairman will have to shoulder the responsibility of the Asia Cup 2025, followed by the ODI edition of Asia Cup which will be held in Bangladesh in 2027, along with the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which returns after the 2017 edition.
