Chennai Super Kings had a
disappointing campaign in the Indian Premier League 2023. They managed to
secure only four wins in 14 league matches and finished in the penultimate
position on the table. Ahead of the auction,
management has released overseas pacers like Adam Milne and Chris Jordan, while
Dwayne Bravo decided to call time on his IPL career and will serve as a bowling coach
of CSK.
Certainly, CSK will be looking to secure the services of foreign
all-rounders/pacers under their ranks to bolster their strength. In this regard,
the franchise is expected to go all-out for England all-rounder Sam Curran. He
was named Player of the Tournament in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022
with 13 wickets at an efficient average of 11.38.
Curran has rich IPL experience as well under his belt. He
has scalped 32 wickets and garnered 337 runs in 32 appearances. In 2019, he
represented Punjab Kings, while playing for CSK in 2020 and 2021. He opted to
miss the 2022 edition due to a back injury.
At present, the team has only one fast-bowling all-rounder
Dwaine Pretorius, who played good amount of matches for CSK in the latest season.
If CSK manages to bring Curran back into the squad, he will be the first-choice
all-rounder, who can be a perfect replacement for Bravo as well.
With Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana as the spinners and
Mukesh Choudhary and Deepak Chahar as the pacers, CSK will have put together a
quality squad, if CSK adds Curran into the line-up.
