Former India wicketkeeper-batter and captain, MS Dhoni has been in news off late after the Indian Premier League (IPL) General Council dropped the Player Regulations ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, set to take place later this year. The former Indian cricketer’s future in the IPL continues to be a subject of discussion with several speculating that the 2025 edition could be his last.

Despite all these talks, the 43-year-old recently opened up on his IPL future with the retention deadline coming closer. It is to be noted that the IPL franchises are set to submit the retained players list by October 31, with the IPL auction likely to be held on November 24 and 25 in the Middle Eastern country.

I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play: MS Dhoni

Speaking during a promotional event, the legend, MS Dhoni confirmed his participation in the upcoming edition of the IPL. “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” Dhoni said hinting on his IPL future. “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” Dhoni further added as quoted by the Times of India.

The 43-year-old further added that he needs to keep himself fit in order to participate in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. “I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” Dhoni further added.

However, it remains to be seen that in what capacity will Dhoni ply his trade for the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reintroducing the uncapped rule for retention of players ahead of IPL 2025.
