Delhi-born cricketer Harshit Rana made the headlines after being picked in the 18-member India squad for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series against Australia next month. In an exclusive interview after picking up a five-wicket haul in a Ranji Trophy game, the pacer reflected on his maiden Test call-up, and remarked that his competitive attitude on the cricket field is very similar to Australia.

Notably, Harshit Rana, who is yet to make his debut for the Indian cricket team, was in the reserves for the first two Test matches of the ongoing series against New Zealand. He has also been a part of the Indian squad during the last the three T20I series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh after the T20 World Cup, but without playing a single game for the side.

I had indications that I might be selected for the Australia tour: Harshit Rana

In his latest chat with ESPNcricinfo, Harshit Rana stated that there were indications about him making the Indian squad for the upcoming tour to Australia, but he wasn’t sure about it. He was quoted as saying, “Only when the team was announced did I know I was going to Australia. But I had indications that I might be selected for the Australia tour because they had me with the team to prepare. Being selected for Australia tour is a big deal for me.”

The 22-year-old also divulged about his aggressive side on the field, which was firmly on display during the recent season of the IPL with the Delhi Capitals, apart from talking about his father’s dream to see him play Test cricket. He said, “The kind of competitive attitude I like to play cricket with on the field is very similar to Australia's. It was my father's dream that I play a Test against England sometime at Lord's, but I personally like Australia more. I am proud of myself, that my name came up for this tour.”

Harshit Rana revealed that he followed India’s last BGT series down under in 2021 with keen interest, and he would like to replicate the heroics if given a chance to play in Australia.
