Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka will mark her return to professional tennis po s t the birth of her daughter, Shai earlier this year in July. The four-time Grand Slam winner, who last played at the WTA tournament at the Pan- Pacific Open in Tokyo in September 2022 has been eagerly waiting to make her return.
The 26-year-old Japanese international player on Friday, November 10 confirmed her return to the sport while taking to social media. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the World No. 439 while re-sharing a post of Brisbane International, captioned, “First tournament next year so excited, I haven’t been to Brisbane in a while.”
“I am really excited about getting back out on the court and competing,” Osaka said as quoted by Skyports. “I always love starting my season in Brisbane and can’t wait to return. The Brisbane International I such a great tournament and will set me up for a brilliant comeback this summer,” she further added.
The tournament which also marks a return after a three-year hiatus followed by the COVID-19 outbreak, will be held from December 31 to January 7, 2024. Apart from Noami Osaka, two-time champion Andy Murray, Holger Rune, Victoria Azarenka and Grigor Dimitrov are the few names who will light up the Brisbane International this edition.
