The second day of the 36th National Games 2022 brought the best of ace fencer Bhavani Devi as she notched up a hat-trick of Gold medals at The National Games. The Olympic fencer Bhavani Devi clinched gold in the women's sabre competition at the National Games 2022 in Gandhinagar's Mahatma Mandir on Friday, securing her third consecutive gold medal.
Tamil Nadu-based athlete defeated Jagmeet Kaur of Punjab 15-3 in the final. She had clinched two gold medals earlier in the 2011 and 2015 editions. Wrestler Diviya Kakaran also lived up to the expectation by pocketing gold medals on Friday.
The 29-year- old fencer from Tamil Nadu notched up a hat-trick of women's Sabre individual gold medals in the National Games. Divya Kakaran from Uttar Pradesh won the women's 76kg class title beating Haryana's Reetika in the quarterfinals and Rohini Satya Shivani (Telangana) and Rani (Himachal Pradesh) with a measure of comfort.
2018 Asian Games decathlon champion Swapan Barman representing Madhya Pradesh claimed the women's High Jump record with a clearance of 1.83m while Praveen Chihravel (Tamil Nadu) made light of a depleted Triple Jump field to win gold with a Games record effort of 16.68m.
In the men's 100m semifinals, Amlan Borgohain from Assam shattered the National Games record, set at 10.45 seconds by Haryana's Dharambir Singh in Thiruvananthapuram in 2015. Amlan Borgohain continued his rich form in the season as he clocked 10.28 seconds, two-hundredths of a second outside the National Record held by Amiya Mallick 2016.
Gujarat's Netball Men's team added the fifth medal in the state's tally after the Technical Committee awarded the bronze to them as well as their opponents, Delhi, following a tie in their bronze medal play-off. Ankita Raina-powered Gujarat women's team qualified for the final with an easy win over Karnataka and will be favourites in the gold medal match against Maharashtra at the Riverside Sports Complex on Saturday.
