After an impressive show at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, there is more good news for Indian sports lovers. At the ongoing fourth Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships, Paralympic gold medallist javelin thrower Sumit Antil and silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya shattered world records in Bengaluru.

Both the Indian athletes achieved the milestone on Friday in the competition being staged at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium. Notably, the 24-year-old broke the world record after his javelin flew a distance of 68.62m, bettering his previous world record throw of 68.55m in the F64 category. The latter was recorded at the Tokyo Paralympic Games held last year.

What made Sumit's efforts even more commendable was that he completely dominated the competition as he broke the world record thrice during the six attempts as per a PTI report.
