On Tuesday, March 25, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 11 runs in their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After PBKS posted 243/5 in the allotted overs, they successfully defend it, courtesy disciplined bowling from PBKS bowlers.
Notably, after winning the toss, Shubman Gill, the captain of GT, chose to field, and his decision paid dividends with a bit of dew coming into play in the second innings. Youngster Priyansh Arya started the proceeding for PBKS, scoring 47 runs, it was the skipper, Shreyas Iyer, who did the talking, hitting a 42-ball 97* to help the side post a competitive total on the board.
In the run chase, hosts GT had a great start with Sai Sudharsan playing a 41-ball 74, skipper Shubman Gill also added 33 runs. Jos Buttler, who came one down, also scored his maiden fifty of the season (54 off 33), he was joined by Sherfane Rutherford (46) later on. At one point, the game still looked in GT’s command, but the PBKS bowlers came to the defense, restricting the hosts to 232/5 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh picked two wickets, Marco Jansen and Glenn Maxwell got one each as PBKS registered their maiden win by 11-run margin.
