The Men in Blue are taking on New Zealand in the first semifinal of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Rohit Sharma-led side comes into this game on the back of a nine-match unbeaten streak, having won all their league stage matches. On the other hand, the Kane Williamson-led side were the last to make it to the semifinals, winning five from nine games.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Men in Blue posted 397/4 in their50 overs, courtesy a ton from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, along with crucial knocks from Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma. While he did break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of smashing most tons in ODI World Cup, there were several other feats which the former India captain surpassed. However, among the most prominent was the one of 50 ODI tons, fans also flood social media, hailing the ‘King’.

Amid all the reactions, former Indian batter, Sachin Tendulkar also lauded Virat’s performance adding that he couldn’t be happier with an Indian breaking his record. “I am so happy that young has grown into a ‘Virat’ player. I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-Final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake”, he wrote.
