On Saturday, September 28, the second day’s play of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park in Kanpur was called off early due to persistent drizzle and wet outfield. Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma-led Team India won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. With only 35 overs being bowled on Day 1, the opening day was also called off early with rain coming into play.
But just at the start of second day’s play, the first session was called off with rain playing a spoilsport. However, the rain came in at frequent intervals, forcing the teams to head back to their team hotels and the umpires to call early stumps.
India vs Bangladesh Day 2 play abandoned with a ball being bowled
After early showers, rain continued, eventually forcing the umpires to call off the day without a ball being bowled. Seeing this, netizens did not leave a stone unturned and slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for hosting the second Test in Kanpur. While some slammed BCCI to host the second Test, a few others also compared this scenario to that of Afghanistan versus New Zealand one-off Test, which was washed out due to persistent rains and water logging at the Greater Noida stadium.
