FIFA announced the 2025 rules for Club World Cup, which includes regulations around minimal rest and full-strength squads. Notably, the Club World Cup is a 63-game tournament with a total of 32 teams which will take place in the US next summer. On Wednesday, November 6, FIFA released a set of the rules for the upcoming edition of the tournament. As per the rules, the clubs must field their best squads, and if they fail to make it, they would risk severe penalties.
Another rule states that players are required to register “3-5 days” before their opening game on June 15. It means that several elite players who are busy with the 2024-25 season will have little time for relaxation due to an international window which is set for June 6 to 10. These regulations come after months of debates and discussions over the event. While the locations for all matches have been revealed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a location for the final has not been chosen yet.
FIFA to solve disputes between teams aiming to buy same player
As per the latest rules, FIFA will judge disputes between teams set to participate in the tournament who would aim to buy the same player. According to the rules, “Should two clubs wish to include the same player on their respective provisional list, the FIFA general secretariat shall decide for which club the player may be listed, after hearing all concerned parties.” The rules also state that players must be on a team’s provisional list approved by FIFA before they can be selected in the final squad.
Apart from it, any team that formally signs up for the tournament and withdraws will be fined “at least 250,000 Swiss francs” (290,000 USD).” While the organising body has released the list of dates, it is yet to confirm prize money and details of the draw. However, it is expected to announce the details in December.
