After a resounding win against Serbia, Brazil has been dealing with major injury issues as Neymar and Danilo will be missing the remaining World Cup group games after sustaining ankle injuries. The Seleção Canarinha will be playing Switzerland and Cameroon in their group.
The Brazilian team doctor confirmed the news during a media interaction. The team doctor expressed that the duo will be under treatment and will miss the forthcoming games. The Brazilian team hopes that the pair can come back and play in the World Cup.
“Neymar and Danilo went through an MRI on Friday afternoon and we found ligament damage in the ankle of both of them,” he told reporters. “They will miss the next game for sure and we will be cautious as they will undergo treatment in order to try to get them in shape so they can play again in the World Cup.”
Neymar was subbed out in the 79th minute, about 10 minutes after hurting his ankle as he was tackled by Serbian defender Nikola Milenković. The Paris Saint Germain star was tackled multiple times before during the match and was seen limping on a few other occasions. He was fouled nine times which is the most of all World Cup players after the first round of matches in the group stage.
Neymar posted a message on his social media accounts after the game. He reacted to the result and praised his teammates for their great performance. He said, “Difficult game, but it was important to win. Congratulations team, first step taken. Six more to go.”
The 30-year-old also posted a text on his Instagram story that mentioned the need to “have faith.” “It’s about believing that everything will be OK despite the chaos. It’s the certainty that the best is yet to come. It’s understanding that everything has its own timing,” Neymar’s message said.
