Neymar Jr to face USD 1 Million fine over illegal construction work in Brazil mansion. Neymar's father has also been reportedly arrested by authorities in Brazil over this environmental crime. He is accused of carrying out banned work on his son's mansion in Mangaratiba, a coastal town in Rio de Janeiro state.
The reports claim that Neymar senior was arrested during an operation carried out by Mangaratiba City Hall and the Civil Police following a complaint about environmental crime. He reportedly had an argument with Mangaratiba's Secretary of Environment, Shayenne Barreto, who issued a fine of 5 million reais ($1 million). Neymar bought the property in 2016 and according to local media, it sits on 10,000 square meters (2.5 acres) of land and includes a helipad, spa, and gym.
The problem appears to stem from an artificial lake that Neymar senior has allegedly built on his son's property, which reportedly "promotes deforestation, rock breaking and diversion of a river". The building of the lake would constitute a number of environmental infractions, such as "diversion of a watercourse, abstraction of river water without authorization, abstraction of water for artificial lake, earthworks, excavation and movement of stones and rocks without authorization".
Neymar senior was released after his arrest, but those in charge of the operation demanded "more education" from him. The operation was led by Mangaratiba Municipal Environment Department and supported by the Environmental Military Police and agents of the municipality's Environmental Protection Group. Neymar Jr has not yet commented on the situation and is currently recovering from surgery on his right ankle, which he underwent in Doha, Qatar, in March.
