The Australian Nick Kyrgios, sidelined from tennis due to a wrist injury, took to his official X account to hail Andrey Rublev for pulling off the “Scary Movie” celebration better than him. The epic moment happened during a rollercoaster night at the Australian Open for the 26-year-old, who defeated the home favourite Alex de Minaur in a five-set thriller.

The No. 5 seed from Russia, Andrey Rublev was down two sets to one down against the Australian opponent in the fourth-round clash at the first Grand Slam of 2024. But deep into the night after four hours and 14 minutes, he managed to defeat Alex de Minaur by 6-4 6-7(5) 6-7(4) 6-3 6-0 to book his place in the quarter-final of the Australian Open against the fourth seed Jannik Sinner from Italy.
Following the big win, Eurosport posted a merged clip on their official X account, asking who out of Nick Kyrgios and Andrey Rublev pulled off the “Scary Movie” celebration better, wherein they had their tongue out with a head shake while eyes closed. In response, the Australian quoted the post and said, “Hahah RUBLO took it to a whole new level”.
Nick Kyrgios, who was commentating on the Australian Open match of Andrey Rublev on Eurosport, asked him in the post-match chat, “That celebration you did with your tongue out, can you do it for me one more time right now?” Although Rublev refused, he went on to explain, “You know actually what happened in my head, you remember this stupid movie, Scary Movie when they were like, ‘Whazzup’. So suddenly it came to my head and I started to do what they were doing there in that movie.”
It led to Kyrgios telling him about how he did the same celebration a few years ago at the Australian Open and said, “I did the exact same celebration on Rod Laver Arena against (Daniil) Medvedev and I want to make a meme of me doing it and then putting it next to Rublev and seeing who did it better.”
