SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who finished the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the Emerging Player of the Year award, caught eyeballs after he made a bold statement around MS Dhoni. The statement where he did a comparison between MS Dhoni and batting stalwart Virat Kohli, got him in the limelight, bringing in some controversy.
Nitish Reddy in an interview said that MS Dhoni has talent but lacks the batting technique, which got him into the heat of the moment. Not only this, he was even slammed by fans for his remarks on Dhoni, the former Team India skipper, who led the side to three historic ICC trophies.
“Dhoni has talent, in the sense that… talent is there but the technique is not there. Dhoni doesn’t have Virat Kohli’s range of techniques. But he is a legend because he knows his strengths and gameplay. That’s why he became a champion,” the SRH all-rounder said in an interview. However, he was quick to clarify after his controversial remarks on MS Dhoni.
Taking to his Instagram story, Nitish Reddy clarified, “I’ve always been a huge admirer of Mahi bhai. The question was about skill or mindset, which is the most important factor. I chose mindset, taking Dhoni bhai’s example. I believe that mindset is the most crucial factor in determining success.”
“What I said in my previous interview was taken out of context, with few people cropping out the video. Let’s not spread negativity, without hearing the full story. Only love, NKR 🤗,” he concluded, urging fans to not spread negativity without watching the full video.
The 21-year-old SRH batter, during his stint in IPL 2024, amassed 303 runs in 11 innings with his highest score of 76* coming against Rajasthan Royals. In his 13 matches, he scored two half-centuries and averaged 33.67. In the bowling front, Reddy scalped three wickets in seven innings at an average of 51.00 and economy of 11.62.
