During the Australia versus Sri Lanka match in the ODI World Cup 2023, a section of the hoardings fell from the roof onto the grandstands, when a storm hit the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. On Monday, October 16, a video went viral on X, wherein the spectators were seen running away to protect themselves from impending danger, while the hoardings came crashing down at the venue.

The storm boasting gusty winds arrived at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, after a temporary rain delay during the ODI World Cup 2023 contest. It resulted in the hoardings, which included banners and iron angles, falling on to the seats in the grandstands.

The official X account of the official website of Cricket Australia shared a post about the surprising turn of events during the ODI World Cup 2023. It read, “Thankfully everybody appears to be ok. Strong winds have caused some re-arranging of Ekana Stadium!”

As per a Times of India report, a public announcement was made at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, wherein the spectators were told to relocate to the safety of the higher seating areas. Moreover, there was no information about any injury sustained by any spectator because of the aforementioned incident at the venue.

Moreover, the rain delay allowed Australia to bowl out Sri Lanka for 209 after the openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera shared a stand of 125 for the first wicket while bringing up their respective fifties. In the run chase, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis scored fifties for Australia to help them win the match by five wickets and register their first points on the ODI World Cup 2023 standings.
