Pakistan are running in their top form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The Men in Green, who beat Netherlands in their tournament opener in Hyderabad, went on to beat Asian rivals Sri Lanka on Tuesday, October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Babar Azam-led side chased down the total of 345 in 48.2 overs, courtesy Abdullah Shafique’s 113 off 103 and Muhammad Rizwan’s crucial unbeaten 131 off 121 deliveries. While he became the second highest run scorer for Pakistan after Imran Nazir, he also dedicated his match winning knock to the people of Gaza.
Rizwan took to microblogging website X dedicating the player of the match knock which read, “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Happy to contribute in the win. Credits to the whole team and especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali for making it easier.”
The wicketkeeper-batter also expressed gratitude toward the people of Hyderabad for their support and hospitality. “Extremely grateful to the people of Hyderabad for the amazing hospitality and support throughout,” it further read.
Rizwan became the highest scorer for Pakistan among wicketkeepers in ODI, surpassing the record of Kamran Akmal’s 124 against West Indies, which the latter scored in Brisbane in 2005. This win was also Pakistan’s second highest successful chase in ODIs and the highest by any team against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
