After Matt Henry suffered a hamstring injury during the recent ODI World Cup 2023 outing against South Africa in Pune, New Zealand called in Kyle Jamieson as a cover for him on Wednesday, November 1. The 28-year-old is reportedly scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday, ahead of the upcoming clash for New Zealand against Pakistan on Saturday, November 4, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the flagship tournament.

During the same match against South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023, the all-rounder James Neesham suffered a blow to his right wrist while bowling in his follow-through, but fortunately for New Zealand, he has been cleared of any broken bones. The injury list for the Blackcaps prior to their last encounter was quite an issue for them, with Lockie Ferguson hurting his achilles against Australia, while the captain Kane Williamson and Mark Chapman are already unavailable due to thumb and calf injuries.
The head coach of New Zealand, Gary Stead addressed the injury of Matt Henry and said, “The severity of Matt's injury, combined with a short turnaround to Pakistan, meant we couldn't risk being a bowler down for Saturday. Matt's been a world-class performer for us in ODI cricket for the past two World Cup cycles so we've got our fingers crossed for the scan results later today.”
Then, the 51-year-old talked about bringing in Kyle Jamieson as a cover in New Zealand, while stating that the right-arm fast bowler was well-prepared to make his return to India. He was quoted as saying, “Kyle's on his way over as we speak and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group. He'll likely train with us on Friday with a mind to being available for Saturday's game.”

“Kyle was able to train for two full weeks with us earlier in the tournament and has since played a Plunket Shield match - so we're confident he'll be able to hit the ground running,” he added.
