Australia Women are hosting their South African counterpart in a three-match ODI series after the hosts reigned in the T20I series, clinching it by 2-1 margin. The Alyssa Healy-led Australia won the toss in the second ODI, underway at the North Sydney Oval and invited the Proteas Women to bat first.

The Laura Wolvaardt-led side posted 229 runs on the board in a match reduced to 45 overs a side, and continued to trouble the hosts, sending half of the side back to the pavilion inside 13 overs. However, during South African batting an incident caught the eyeballs where the on-field umpire was involved in a major goof up.
The incident unfolded on the final delivery of the 24th over. After Ashleigh Gardner bowled the final delivery of the over to Sune Luus, the side went for a DRS. However, the delivery saw hitting Luus on the front pad after she tried to sweep but missed the stumps. The appeal of the hosts was turned down by the TV umpire Sue Redfern and as the camera panned the on-field umpire in Claire Polosak, she raised her finger to signal Out before realising her mistake.

However, Polosak was quick to reverse her decision as she signalled ‘Not Out’ feeling embarrassed.
It is to be noted that Polosak is the first-ever female umpire to officiate in a men’s Test match. She achieved this feat in the match between Australia and India in Sydney, three years ago.
Speaking of the ongoing second ODI between Australia Women and South Africa Women, the hosts need 153 runs to win after 16 overs and clinch the series with a match still to go. On the other hand, the visitors just need two wickets to level in the three-match series 1-1.
