The legend of the Australian cricket team, Shane Warne had a remarkable career for Kangaroos. The former cricketer has stunned many great batters in the world with his magical deliveries and is often regarded as the greatest leg spinner of all time. Warne was monumental in the domination of the Australian cricket team in the world in the late 1990s and 2000s. He went on to become an inspiration for many great spinners in the world and has gained immense respect throughout his career and even after his retirement. 

Shane Warne made his international debut for Australia in a Test match against India in Sydney on January 2, 1992. He went on to become a legend of the longest format of the game and finished as the second highest wicket-taker of all time in Tests. Shane Warne was also the first-ever player to reach the milestone of 700 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in a match against England in Melbourne on December 26, 2006.

On June 4, 1993, Shane Warne stunned the cricketing fraternity when he delivered the ball of the century against England’s Mike Gatting in Manchester. His excellent bowling skills have been monumental in his success. Shane Warne bid adieu to international cricket in 2007. However, he was still seen playing in the Indian Premier League and led Rajasthan Royals to the title in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. He passed away at the age of 52 years after suffering a cardiac arrest on March 4, 2022.

Second highest wicket-taker of all time in international cricket (Test & ODI): Shane Warne finished his career as the second highest wicket-taker of all time in international cricket. He took 1001 wickets in his career playing 145 Test and 194 ODIs. He is just behind Muttiah Muralitharan, who has 1347 wickets in his career.

Second highest wicket-taker in Tests: Shane Warne, a legend of Test cricket, has taken second most wickets of all time in the longest format of the game. He took 708 wickets in his Test career.

First player to take 700 wickets in Tests: Shane Warne was the first player in the history of international cricket to take 700 wickets in Test. The leg spinner achieved this feat in his 144th Test match against England in Melbourne on December 26, 2006. 

Second fastest to 700 Test wickets: As Shane Warne was the first cricketer to take 700 Test wickets, he was also the second fastest cricketer to achieve this milestone. Warne took his 700th Test wicket in his 144th Test match, while Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan is at the top in the list as he achieved the feat in his 113th Test match.
