On January 10, 1985, Ravi Shastri smashed the fastest double hundred in first-class cricket at that time. Playing for Bombay in a Ranji Trophy match against Baroda, Shastri smashed a fiery 200 runs off just 123 balls and took just 113 balls to reach the double hundred. With this, Ravi Shastri went on to smash the fastest first-class double ton, a record that would last till 33 years before Afghanistan batter Shafiqullah broke it by smashing the 200 runs off just 89 balls in just 89 balls.
Talking about the match, batting first, Bombay posted 371/4 in their first innings with Ghulam Parkar top scoring with 170 runs. Apart from that, Lalchand Rajput also contributed with 66 runs while Shishir Hattangadi scored 83 runs. For Baroda, Vinit Wadkar took three scalped while Suresh Keshwala put one in his bag.

In reply to Bombay's 371 runs, Baroda declared on 330 runs losing eight wickets. Suresh Keshwala top scored with an unbeaten 100* runs, Apart from that, Tilak Raj scored 55 runs while Mohinder Amarnath contributed with a knock of 88 runs. For Bombay, Raju Kulkarni and Ravi Shastri scalped three wickets each while Suru Nayak put two in his bag. With a lead of 41 runs in the first innings, Lalchand Rajput went on to score a century for Bombay in the second innings and got out after scoring 136 runs.
After that, Ravi Shastri took charge of the innings and went on to smash a fiery 200*(113) runs hitting 13 fours and as many sixes. The right-hander completed his double hundred in less than two hours and achieved a new feat in first-class cricket. Bombay posted 457/5 in the second innings giving Baroda a target of 499 runs to win. Chasing a winning target, Baroda lost seven wickets for 81 runs before the match ended in a draw.
