Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is celebrating his 39th birthday on December 5, 2024. The opening left-hand batter has achieved so many records during his career for the Indian and was also known for playing big knocks. Dhawan used to give fiery starts to India in the limited overs and has also been a consistent scorer for India in the ICC tournaments. He is the all-time second-highest run scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Shikhar Dhawan made his international debut for India in an ODI match against Australia in Visakhapatnam on October 20, 2010. After three years, Dhawan announced his arrival in Test with a hundred on his Test debut against Australia in Mohali in 2013. In the same year, Dhawan finished as the leading run getter in the Champions Trophy as Indian clinched the title in that edition. He was also India’s top run getter in the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.
Shikhar Dhawan has also been a constant run getter in the IPL with 6769 runs in 222 matches in the cash-rich league. He has played for five different franchises in the IPL with the likes of Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. He also won the title with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in August 2024. The left hander played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is, amassing 10867 runs in all three formats combined.

2nd Fastest Indian to score 6000 ODI runs: Shikhar Dhawan comes fifth in the list of fastest cricketers to score 6000 runs in ODI cricket. Apart from that, he is also the second fastest Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to achieve this milestone. The opening batter achieved the feat in his 140th ODI innings against Sri Lanka in Colombo on July 18, 2021.
Most Runs by an Indian in debut Test innings: Shikhar Dhawan also boasts a record for the most runs by an Indian batter in debut Test innings. In his debut Test innings against Australia in Mohali in 2013, Dhawan scored 187 runs off just 174 balls.
2nd highest run getter in IPL: Shikhar Dhawan is just behind Virat Kohli in the list of players with most runs in the history of IPL. He is the second highest run getter in the cash-rich league with 6769 runs in 222 matches.
