Star Australian batter Travis Head is celebrating his 31st birthday on December 29, 2024. The left-handed batter is in the form of his life in the last couple of years, and has been a key player in Australia’s big wins in recent times. After making his international debut in 2016, Travis Head didn't have much of an impressive start to his career. However, he has now become one of the most important players for Australia across all formats of the game.
Travis Head made his international debut in a T20I against India in Adelaide on January 26, 2016. Since then, he has played 53 Tests, 69 ODIs, and 38 T20Is for Australia so far, amassing 7320 runs in all three formats combined at an average of 41.82. He played a crucial role in Australia’s World Test Championship and ODI World Cup triumphs in 2023, being player of the match in the finals on both the occasions.
Travis Head's Career Highlights
Travis Head didn’t have a promising start to his international career, and was struggling to get big runs. After making his T20I and ODI debut in 2016, the left-hander also got a Test callup for Australia for a Test series against Pakistan in 2018. After getting out for a duck in the first innings of his Test career in Dubai, Head scored an impressive 75 runs in the second innings. However, he struggled to score consistent runs in the Test format as well, and was dropped from the Test side at the start of 2021.
Travis Head was called back in the Australian for the Ashes 2021-22, and finished as a leading run getter of the series with 357 runs as Australia won the Ashes by 4-0. In 2022, Head also made his return to Australia's limited-overs side after four years, and announced his comeback in style with a match-winning ton in an ODI against Pakistan in Lahore.
After that, Travis Head had an year to remember in 2023, and played a monumental role in Australia’s two big ICC triumphs that year. He first scored a match-winning 163 runs in the World Test Championship final against India at the Oval from June 7 to 11 in 2023, as the Aussies added another ICC trophy to their cabinet. After a few months, Head went on to score a memorable 137(120) runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad on November 19 as Australia lifted their record sixth world title.
Travis Head also had a memorable season for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, finishing as the fourth highest-run getter of the season with 567 runs in 15 matches at a staggering strike rate of 191.55. He was also Australia’s highest run getter in the 2024 T20 World Cup with 255 runs in seven games.
