Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has scored over 13000 runs in his ODI career so far. The right-hander has been among the best batters of the 50-overs format in the last decade, achieving several milestones for India. Kohli is the third highest run-scorer of all time in ODIs with 13906 runs, including 50 centuries. The former Indian captain was at the peak of his powers when he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to score 10000 ODI runs in a match against West Indies in Visakhapatnam on October 24, 2018.
During their remarkable clash, Virat Kohli played a captain’s knock of 157*(129) runs. This was Kohli’s 37th ton in the 50-overs format. However, the crowd went wild as soon as Kohli completed his 110th run in that game to become the fastest player to score 10000 runs in the ODI format. Kohli achieved the feat in his 205th ODI innings, while Sachin Tendulkar achieved it in his 259th innings. Five years later, another Indian batter Rohit Sharma also surpassed Sachin's by scoring 10000 ODI runs in 241 innings.
India versus West Indies' thrilling ODI match in 2018 ended in a tie
Apart from Virat Kohli’s 10000-run milestone, the second ODI between India and West Indies also turned out to be a memorable one for the fans as it ended in a tie. Batting first, India posted 321/6 in their 50 overs, with Kohli scoring 157* runs along with Ambati Rayudu’s 73-run knock off 80 balls. Coming to chase the winning total, West Indies lost three wickets for 78 runs in 12 overs.
After the fall of the third wicket, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer took the charge of the innings as the duo put up a partnership of 143 runs for the fourth wicket. Hetmyer fell short of his century by just six runs as the left-hander got out after scoring 94 runs off 64 balls. However, Shai Hope went on to complete his ton as he remained unbeaten on 123 runs off 134 balls. With five runs needed off the last ball, he smashed a boundary as the pulsating ODI match ended in a tie.
