Virender Sehwag was known to be a destructive batter during his playing days as an Indian cricketer. He is the first Indian to score a triple century in Test and the only player from the country to score two triple centuries in the longest format. The right-hander gave a glimpse of his disastrous batting in Test cricket on his very first match for India in the longest format at the age of 23 years.
Virender Sehwag made his debut for India in an ODI match against Pakistan in 1999. After two years, Sehwag got to play his first match for India in red ball cricket in a Test match against South Africa in Bloemfontein on November 3, 2001. The 23-year-old made his Test debut memorable with a century and a partnership with Sachin Tendulkar.

Batting first, India got a poor start as they lost 4 wickets at the score of 68 runs. After that, Sachin Tendulkar, who was still at the crease was joined by the debutant Virender Sehwag. The duo added 220 runs before the loss of the fifth wicket and helped India to recover from early breakthroughs. Sachin was a top scorer of the innings with 155 runs off 184 balls. On the other hand, Sehwag also went on to score his debut Test hundred.
Virender Sehwag got his hundred off 157 balls as the right-hander got out after scoring 105 runs off 173 balls with 19 boundaries. With this, India posted 379 runs in the first innings. However, it didn’t help India much as South Africa eventually went on to win the match by nine wickets.
