With centuries by Abdullah Shafique and Mohammed Rizwan, Pakistan completed the highest chase in World Cup history to beat Sri Lanka by six wickets. The first innings saw Sri Lanka put in a stunning batting effort with Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108) scoring incredible centuries. The Lankans posted a massive total of 344 runs with Pakistani bowling struggling to contain runs.

For the Men in Green, Hasan Ali was the star with the ball as he picked up four wickets while giving away 71 runs in his 10 overs. Then in the second innings, Pakistan got off to another terrible start with Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam getting out cheaply. But rescuing Pakistan, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammed Rizwan stitched up a massive 176-run stand as Shafique smashed his maiden World Cup century on tournament debut.
But after Abdullah Shafique's wicket, Mohammed Rizwan took the reigns and smashed a stellar 131 in 121 balls with eight fours and three sixes. Rizwan, batting cramps, eventually finished off the game with a boundary as the Men in Green registered a historic six-wicket win over a depleted Sri Lankan side.
