The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday, March 26 announced 15-member roster for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, which will be held in Lahore from April 9 to 19. The six-team ICC event, which comprises Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, West Indies, as well as hosts Pakistan, will be played in a single-league round-robin format at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA field. This upcoming tournament will also decide two qualifiers for the 2025 Women's World Cup which will be held in India this year.
Selectors have retained all-rounder Fatima Sana as captain for the Pakistan squad, replacing all-rounder Nida Dar, who is not included in the team. Sana has captained Pakistan in six Twenty20 Internationals and two One Day Internationals (ODIs). Pakistan, on the other hand, will play their matches at a neutral venue after a hybrid concept was agreed upon in response to India's rejection to play their ICC Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan earlier this year.
CWC Qualifiers set to be Pakistan Women’s first outing since loss against New Zealand Women
The Pakistan women's squad will be facing Ireland and other national teams in what would be their first outing since October last year which they lost against New Zealand in the Women’s T20 World Cup. However, selectors are quite confident of the squad for the upcoming series. “The squad was selected after the selection committee evaluated players’ fitness and form in the ongoing second phase of preparation camp, where the players took part in warm-up matches and practice sessions,” PCB said.
Pakistan will face Scotland in a day game at the LCCA ground on April 11, later they will play against the West Indies in a day-night match at the Gaddafi Stadium on April 14.
