The Pakistan Cricket Board has restored the central contract of Haris Rauf after receiving a written apology letter from the cricketer. Rauf’s central contract was terminated after he was unavailable for national duties citing workload issues. Rauf’s termination came just two days ahead of the start of the Pakistan Super League after he made himself unavailable for the Australia Test tour.
The PCB said that Rauf’s explanation was unsatisfactory after the termination of the bowler’s central contract. Pakistan's fast bowler struggled during the PSL tournament and was ruled out of the remainder of the league after he dislocated his shoulder. After making himself unavailable for the Australia tour, Rauf was seen participating in the Big Bash League, where he represented the Melbourne Stars.
Not only did the PCB terminate his contract, but also put clauses against him in representing franchise cricket. However, later, the governing body issued an NOC.
An incorrect decision was taken: PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi
The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi restored the cricketer’s contract and said that it all happened due to a misunderstanding. In a statement, Naqvi said, “There was a misunderstanding and an incorrect decision was taken. His contract has been restored. I was worried because he was injured, and there were concerns about who would facilitate his treatment. We will now have insurance cover as he’s our star player, and it’s important to take care of him.”
Naqvi said that he received a letter from Rauf after his contract was terminated and the bowler “made his case very nicely”, which led to the PCB restoring his contract.
