The Indian contingent started the Para Asian Games 2023 campaign on a triumphant note of six golds on the opening day of the event. India’s most recent gold was won by Praveen Kumar in the Men’s High Jump T64, T66 event. Alongside Kumar on the podium, fellow Indian Unni Renu took home the bronze medal.

Prior to the Men’s High jump double podium, Ankur Dhama, won the gold medal in the men’s 5000m-T11 category. While Kapil Parmar secured the first Silver in Men's - 60 Kg J1 in Judo. Similarly, the Men's T47 High Jump also saw a double-podium with Nishad Kumar winning the gold with a leap of 2.02m and Ram Pal clinching silver, with a jump of  1.94m.


Earlier in the day, Avani Lekhara, won the gold medal after breaking the Asian Games record of 247.0 in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Stand SH1 Final and ended up with a score of  249.6 points. Before Lekhara’s top prize, the Indian athletes registered a perfect podium in men’s club throw F51 event. 

Pranav Soorma broke the Asian Para Games record with a 30.01m throw to clinch the gold. At the same time, Dharambir (28.76m) and Amit Kumar (26.93m) were second and third respectively. Similarly, Three Indians also finished 1-2-3 in the men’s high jump T63 category but only gold and silver were awarded under Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) rules. 


Shailesh Kumar won the gold, with Games Record with jump of 1.82m and Mariyappan Thangavelu clinched silver with his Season's Best jump of 1.80. So far, India is in fourth place with 17 medals with six gold, six silver and five bronze.
