Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso has been banned from staying at the Paris Olympic Village during the 2024 Summer Games. Alonso was banned after as she was accused of creating an 'inappropriate environment'. The development was confirmed by the Paraguayan Olympic Committee via a statement.
The 20-year-old swimmer recently finished last in the women's 100m butterfly heat. The event was won by Torri Huske of the USA while her compatriot Gretchen Walsh took the silver. China's Zhang Yufei finished third and claimed the bronze medal.
Coming back to Alonso, the president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Larissa Schaerer released a statement confirming Luana Alonso's exit from the Olympic Village. The statement said, "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village."
The 20-year-old also created a massive stir at the Paris Olympics 2024 as she confirmed that she would be retiring from the sport. Alonso announced retirement after missing out on qualification for the semi-final by a mere 0.24 seconds. Confirming her decision on Instagram, Alonso wrote: “It's official now! I'm retiring from swimming, thank you all so much for the support! Sorry Paraguay, I only have to thank you!”
