Sweden's Armand Duplantis created history as he won the gold medal in the men's pole vault and then broke his world record at the Paris Olympics 2024. In the process,  Duplantis also defended his pole vault gold and became the  first man to retain the pole vault title since American Bob Richards in 1952 and 1956. Celebrating this moment, the Swede posed like  Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who has gone viral on social media.

The Swedish pole vaulter registered a new world record height of 6.25m after securing his gold earlier with a vault of 6.00m. These scores kept him above  American Sam Kendricks, who won silver with a best of 5.95m and the bronze medallist from Greece, Emmanouil Karalis.

After his historic feat, Duplantis copied the shooting pose of Turkey's Yusuf Dikec, who went viral on social media for 'casually' winning a silver medal in the Paris Games. Dikec also took to social media to congratulate Duplantis after the pole vaulter's historic gold.

I haven’t processed how fantastic that moment was:  Duplantis

Speaking about his recording-breaking night in Paris,  Armand Duplantis said,  "I haven’t processed how fantastic that moment was. It’s one of those things that don’t really feel real, such an out-of-body experience. It’s still hard to kind of land right now."

" What can I say? I just broke a world record at the Olympics, the biggest possible stage for a pole vaulter. [My] biggest dream since a kid was to break the world record at the Olympics, and I’ve been able to do that in front of the most ridiculous crowd I’ve ever competed in front of."
