On Saturday, July 27, Lakshya Sen, the Indian badminton player, started his Paris Olympics 2024 campaign in style with a win in his opening match in Group L. The 22-year-old got the better of Kevin Cordon from Guatemala in straight games 21-8, 22-20, to take a big first step towards making the knockout stage of the men’s singles event in Paris.
The first game of Group L match in men’s singles was quite a one-sided affair wherein Lakshya Sen stamped his authority on Kevin Cordon. He went on to dominate the proceedings right throughout before clinching the first game 21-8.
In the second game, the Guatemalan made a big comeback, putting Lakshya Sen under exceeding pressure while finding himself in the lead for the most of it. Kevin Cordon had four game points at 20-16, but he succumbed to the expectations of Guatemala fans at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
Lakshya Sen saved four game points in a row before winning two more points, to take the second game 22-20. With that, the Indian shuttler registered his first win in Group L of the men’s singles event.
The former world championship bronze medallist is set to play against Julien Carraggi of Belgium in the second match of Group L.
