Indian archer Deepika Kumari suffered a heartbreaking 4-6 loss against Nam Suhyeon of South Korea in the quarterfinal of the women’s individual event at the Paris Olympics 2024.  Kumari advanced into the quarters after beating w orld number 13 recurve archer Michelle Kroppen from Germany. 

The Indian archer took down her rival 6-4 to secure her berth in the R/8 at the Summer Games 2024. Before the individual events, Kumari and the Indian archers had a forgettable outing in the team event as they lost against the Netherlands in the quarterfinal.

Coming back to the Invalides, Kumari started Set 1 with a 9 to  Suhyeon's 10 before the South Korean finished the set with two 8s. The Indian took the opening with shots of 10 and 9 to take a 2-0 lead. Set 2 saw the Suhyeon register a total score of 28 to Kumari's 25, including a blunderous 6-pointer.

The third set started with  Nam Suhyeon registering scores of 10,9,9 which the 30-year-old Ranchi pipped with 10,9,10 to take a 4-2 lead. The South Korean hit a 10, 9 and 10 which helped level the scores at 4-4 as the Indian registered a score of 27. In the deciding set, Suhyeon had a score of 29 to win the contest and reach the semi-final as Deepika Kumari could manage only 27 points.

Speaking about the other Indian archers, Bhajan Kaur suffered a gutwrenching shoot-off loss against  Diananda Choirunisa of Indonesia in the Round of 16 clash of the women's individual archery event. On August 2, the Indian mixed archery team of Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara had to settle for a 6-2 defeat against the American pair of Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold.

Before this bronze medal match, India lost to the  South Korean pair of Lim Si-Hyeon and  Kim Woo-jin in the semis and defeated  Elia Canales and Pablo Acha Gonzalez of Spain in the quarterfinal.
