Hockey at Paris Olympics 2024: Schedule, venue, categories and more
The hockey events will run from July 27 till August 9, 2024 and will be held at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes. The Summer Games will see the men’s and women’s hockey be a 12-team tournament. While the men’s gold medal match is scheduled for August 8, the Women’s final will be played on August 9.
What is the format in hockey and how does scoring works?
Hockey rules and scoring is as simple as it could be. In the simplest of things, the team which scores the most goal, wins the game.
Each match consists of four 15 minutes periods, played between the two teams of 11 players. The players can only touch the ball with the flat side of the hockey stick. In the group stages, three points will be awarded for a win and one from a draw. Top four teams from the group stage will progress into the knockouts.
If the scores are tied during the knockout matches, the winner is decided on the basis of a penalty shoot-out.
