India’s sole rower at the Paris Olympics 2024, Balraj Panwar secured the fourth-place finish in the Heat 1 of the Men’s Singles Sculls. The 25-year-old Indian refugee had a tough luck as he finished fourth in the heat and will now wait for his performance in the repechage rounds to proceed further in the competition.
It is to be noted that the top three from the Heat qualify for the quarterfinals. In the Heat 1, which has India’s Balraj Panwar, saw New Zealand’s Thomas Mckintosh finish at the top with a timing of 6:55.92. Greece’s Stefanos Ntouskos and Egypt’s Abdelkhalek Elba finished third and fourth with the timing of 7:01.79 and 7:05.06, respectively. India’s Balraj finished at fourth place with a timing of 7:07.11, which confirmed his participation in the repechage round, which will be held on Sunday, July 28.

It is to be noted that Balraj Panwar secured India’s first Paris 2024 quota in rowing after winning bronze medal in the men’s singles sculls (m1x) event at the Asian and Oceanian Rowing Olympic Qualification Regettain Chungju, the Republic of Korea.
However, he earned a place for the quadrennial Games, he missed the bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, where he clocked a timing of 7:17.87 in the heats and 7:18.29 in the semifinals to make into the finals in Chunju.
