After having a forgettable day on Saturday, July 27 at the Paris Olympics, India’s Ramita Jindal came out on top, earning a spot in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle final. Jindal qualified for the final on Sunday, July 28 with a score of 631.5 in the qualification round.
The Indian youngster finished at fifth place in the qualification round while her compatriot, Elavenil dropped down to tenth place, registering an aggregate score of 630.7. With her final spot, Ramita became the second female shooter in the last 20 years, after Manu Bhaker to reach the medal round. Moreover, she is the first female rifle shooter since her coach Suma Shirur (Athen 2004) to make it to Olympics final.
Elavenil drops to 10th place; bows out of competition
India’s Elavenil Valarivan missed a place in the final round despite leading the charts in the initial part of the series. While she found herself tied at fifth place at one moment but a shaky start in the later rounds, led her to move out of the top eight and eventually get knocked out.
Furthermore, Korea’s Hyojin Ban topped the qualification round with a score of 634.5 points and along with it, also registered the Olympics qualification record.
