Australian skipper Pat Cummins secured the highest bid in the Indian Premier League history. Cummins became the first player to cross the ₹20 crore mark in the IPL 2024 Auction. The ODI World Cup 2023 winning captain joined the SunRisers Hyderabad camp for a whopping sum of ₹20.50 crore. Earlier, England’s Sam Curran held the record of being the most expensive player in IPL history, after he was sold for ₹18.50 crore to Punjab Kings in the 2023 season auction.

Cummins was signed by the Hyderabad-based franchise for ten times more than his base price, which was ₹2 crore. T he bid war started between the joint-most successful teams Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Just when the bid raised to ₹4.80 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore and SurnRisers Hyderabad entered the bidding war.
Bangalore and Hyderabad fought for the World Cup-winning captain when the latter made the final call. In 42 matches he played in the IPL, Cummins has 45 wickets at an economy rate of 8.54 as well as 359 runs.
