Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly asked the ICC to provide them with a written clarification from the BCCI. The cricket board reportedly wants a clarification from the BCCI that they are unable to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan as well as the particular reason for it. Notably, last week, the ICC told the PCB that the BCCI has not been given permission by the Indian government for the team to travel across the border for the tournament.
The tournament is set to be played across three venues in Pakistan from February 9, next year. However, the reports by ESPNCricinfo suggests that the PCB wants a written clarification from the BCCI along with a justification for it. It came three days before the official launch date of the event which would have started a 100-day countdown. However, as per the latest development, the event has been postponed, with uncertainty looming over the execution.
Hybrid model not being considered for Champions Trophy 2025: Senior PCB Official
A senior PCB official told sources that Pakistan’s stance for the execution of the tournament remains unchanged. It means that the entire tournament will be played in Pakistan and there is “no chance” of a hybrid model. It was once used for the Asia Cup 2023, and according to it, India will be allowed to play their games outside Pakistan. Not only this, but there have been rumours about the UAE being used as a second venue.
The reports suggest that one of the reasons PCB is standing firm at the moment is because they feel offended about the events last year. Earlier, the side was forced to use the hybrid model for the Asia Cup, before they travelled to India for the World Cup.
