England opening batter, Phil Salt became the first English player to score two centuries in men’s T20Is. The 27-year-old, who is currently playing the five-match T20I series in the Caribbean against West Indies, helped his side to level the series, scoring a century off 57 deliveries.
However, he might be the first to score back-to-back centuries for the Three Lions, he went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction, which was held on Tuesday, December 19 in Dubai. Speaking after the IPL 2024 auction, Salt called his omission “confusing”.
“I expected to be picked up, having gone there last year and done well and after the year that I’ve had, but these things happen. It’s part of lottery of an auction. It happens in draft processes as well,” Salt said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
“I was a bit confused, but it can happen. There’s no bad cricketers on the list at the IPL. It’s one of those things,” he further added. The 27-year-old however cherished how a few other members of the England dressing room got a bid in the auction. “There are a few lads in our dressing room who are going to have a very good Christmas and I’m over the moon for them,” he quoted.
